The last two weeks have been difficult for me to navigate. Sometimes things happen in our lives that catch us off guard and it can leave us feeling confused or vulnerable. Maybe even sad or lost. What have you. And that can be really hard to deal with. Not only that but it can be very easy to get stuck on the “why.” Why me? Why did this happen? “What did I do to deserve this?” The “why” can leave us feeling stuck in the hard stuff. If you’ve ever experienced something like this, I just want you to know that you’re not alone. Your feelings are valid. However, even though your feelings are valid, it’s so important not to get stuck in those feelings. To acknowledge them, accept them, but not become engulfed and consumed by them. When bad, sad, or unexpected things happen- it’s important to do whatever we need to in order to deal with them in a way that allows us to also be okay. Often times this means putting in the work. Maybe this looks like going to therapy and working through it with a professional who can both listen and guide you through it. Or maybe it means focusing on mindfulness and being in the present moment- from moment to moment. Often times re-directing our thoughts the same way we would redirect a toddler can be beneficial. We can carve out time to enjoy old hobbies or explore new ones, to lose ourselves in a good book or movie, to enjoy time outside in the sun. Taking a moment each day to find the good (and there is always good) and show gratitude. And lastly, it’s important to show ourselves some grace. We’re human, and sometimes being human can be painful. But being human also means we are capable beings, capable of even the hardest of things. Whatever you’re experiencing and going through right now, you’re not alone, and you got this. Don’t give up. Wrap your arms around yourself, give yourself a tight squeeze, and whisper, “we can do this.” Because, friend, we can. ♥️
