The great and wise Buddha once said, “What you think- You become. What you feel- You attract. What you imagine- You create.” Wayne Dyer said, “You become what you think about all day long and those days eventually become your lifetime.” And Neale Donald Walsch said, “Your thoughts create your reality. Your mind is more powerful than you know.”
What do these three quotes have in common? They all focus on how our thoughts affect our lives and our reality. One of my all-time favorite books is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It’s about a young boy’s journey in pursuing his dreams. It focuses on the boy learning to listen to his heart, be aware of omens and overcome obstacles. It’s also about learning the lessons life has to offer during your journey. One of the things I learned while reading this book is that in order to achieve our dreams we have to keep them in the forefront of our mind-despite the things that pop up along the way.
In today’s society is so easy to become bogged down with the worries and stress the world constantly shoves in our faces. Every day we are bombarded with beautiful, photo shopped photos of men and women- giving us ample opportunity to compare ourselves and feel “less”. We have a never ending amount of fear-inducing news stories giving us a million things to be worried and concerned about. And with access to social media on almost every digital advice we own… we can literally watch other people post and share photos of their seemingly perfect lives 24/7.
Ladies and gentlemen, this shit is not healthy. It’s not okay for us to feed our brain a constant source of negativity and/or envious comparisons. If you’re constantly looking at pictures/stories of people you think are “prettier” or “more accomplished” or more whatever than you are… it is not motivating. In fact, it can be debilitating. You’ll find yourself sitting there wondering what they have that you don’t, why you’re not good enough/smart enough/pretty enough. And then THOSE are the thoughts that will be in your brain shaping your life.
And who wants to go through life feeling not “enough?” Not me. We have to stop with that. According to Abraham Hicks if we hold a thought for 17 seconds the Law of Attraction will kick in and if we hold a thought for 68 seconds manifestation will begin. This is where meditation comes in to play. When you catch yourself thinking negatively I want you to stop, pick a healthy affirmation, and repeat it to yourself for a minimum of 17 seconds. We can all spare 17 seconds of our day to say, “I am happy.” “I am pretty.” “I am good enough.” “I can achieve this.”
Change your thoughts… and change your life.
