Who are You?

Who are you, really? Whenever I ask this question people typically respond one of two ways: I’m “so and so” or “I’m so and so’s mom.” Neither of those answers are wrong, but they don’t tell me WHO you really are. I want to know what you’re passionate about, what your dreams are, what sets your spirit on fire.
So often I see people living their lives as a shadow of who they were meant to be. They let the mundaneness of life overtake them, becoming so caught up in the routine that they forget who they themselves are. You are more than a company employee. You are more than someone’s parent or someone’s child. You are more than the shadow of your own self that you have been living in.
We are born in to this life fresh with no strings, no rules of what we must do or become. We can literally be anything that we want to be. There is nothing holding us back except our own selves. This is where people generally pipe up that they can’t because they don’t have the time or the knowledge or the finances. But here’s the thing - that is a crock of bull shit. We all have the same 24 hours in a day/7 days a week. We are all capable of making whatever amount of money we need to make. We all have the same amount of knowledge literally within fingertips reach.
If you don’t have the knowledge or money for schooling- that is okay. Go to your local library and hop on google or check out a book. Don’t have the money? Pick up a second job to save up until you do. Ask for financial support or a loan. No time? Make the time. Maybe that means getting up an hour earlier than usual or going to bed an hour later. Maybe it means using your lunch break. There is no excuse for not making your dreams a reality other than you’re choosing not to. It’s a harsh truth bomb, I know.
Growing up my mother consistently said, “Shit or get off the pot.” I never truly appreciated that expression until this last year in my life. I have always loved writing. I have let every excuse in the book stop me from doing it. Until now. Now it’s time to “take that shit” so to speak. Maybe you don’t have the time or the money or the knowledge or the support or whatever yet. But “yet” is probably the most important word in the dictionary. Yet implies that even though it’s not currently – it can be in time.
Stop wasting your time and making excuses. I don’t want to just know who you are- I want to SEE who you are. I want to see you step out of your own shadow and make your imprint in this world. I want you to take this one life you have to live and make it worth it. Live it to your absolute fullest. Step out of your comfort zone and become who you were meant to be. Because I, and the rest of the world, can’t wait to meet you.
